Hawthorn, Leslie & Co Ltd built, in 1890, two similar 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotives, named 'Clausentum' and the other 'Ironside', for the Southampton Dock Company. The locomotives passed to the London South Western Railways (LSWR), along with the dock company, in 1892. Both locomotives retained their names throughout their working lives. The pair, numbered 457 and 458, by the LSWR, carried various running numbers during their Southern Railway career. Photographic evidence suggests that 'Ironside' carried either a short or long chimney at different times. 'Clausentum' was withdrawn in 1945 but 'Ironside' survived, as BR 30458, and ended its working days in 1954 as shed pilot at Guilford.
The kit contains brass etchs for the bodywork and nickel silver for the chassis. Lost wax brass castings, wire, handrail knobs etc.
